This is where the evidence for blue light filtering is strongest. Blue light suppresses melatonin production — the hormone that regulates sleep — more effectively than other wavelengths. Exposure to blue light in the hours before bed can delay sleep onset and reduce sleep quality. Blue light filtering glasses worn in the evening may genuinely help.

Long-Term Eye Damage

Some marketing materials suggest blue light from screens causes long-term retinal damage. Current scientific evidence does not support this claim for the levels of blue light emitted by digital screens, which are orders of magnitude less intense than sunlight.
